Nonwovens producers Ahlstrom Corporation and Saudi Arabia-based Advanced Fabrics (SAAF) have formed a strategic alliance for the sale of SAAF’s Medalon range of spunbond/meltblown medical drape and gown fabrics. This cooperation allows both companies at the same time to benefit from SAAF’s manufacturing expertise and innovative product range and Ahlstrom’s global presence, strong relationships and wide product offering. SAAF’s specific know-how will allow Ahlstrom to offer a multitude of technologies to its customer base, providing the complete range to meet the guidelines provided in the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI:PB 70) document titled “Liquid barrier performance and classification of protective apparel and drapes intended for use in health care facilities”. The fabrics are more typically known as Level 1, 2, 3 and level 4. Ahlstrom and SAAF also co-operate to supply spunmelt fabrics (Plasma Wrap) into the European market for sterile barrier system applications. The strategic alliance will take effect immediately.
